Vermilion has earned recognition from the French government for its partnership with Tom d’Aqui, a producer of greenhouse tomatoes. The project uses geothermal heat from Vermilion's petroleum extraction process in the Parentis Field in France to heat 10 hectares of neighbouring greenhouse. This partnership has created 150 local jobs, and is fuelling the annual production of more than 3,000 tonnes of fresh, ripe, juicy tomatoes while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 10,000 tonnes per year. Vermilion is also exploring other energy sources that could be harnessed to support this project, such as utilizing gas that would be otherwise flared. Click here for the full story.
