At the start of the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century, Ireland was at the end of a very long pipeline, importing around 90% of its gas supplies from Europe via an interconnector pipeline from the UK. Political instability or an interruption of Russian gas supplies to Europe \u2013 as happened for a short period in January 2009 \u2013 provided a significant and growing threat to Ireland\u2019s energy security. Against this background, bringing Corrib Gas to the Irish market became increasingly important. \u00b9<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a7df5d3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a7df5d3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Vermilion\u2019s main focus is to ensure the timely delivery of Corrib gas in order to boost Ireland\u2019s domestic gas supply, thus enhancing the country\u2019s energy security and reducing its dependency on imported natural gas.
