The Vermilion Energy Family Centre opened in spring 2015, making the dream of a place for families to be together while in treatment at Wood's Homes now a reality. Wood’s Homes is a multi-service, nationally recognized children’s mental health organization; the family centre is a critical part of successful treatment and transition back into the community for at-risk youth.
Vermilion has supported the YWCA of Calgary since 2007 though the Employment Resource Centre (ERC) (formerly Skills Training Centre). The ERC aims to help women maintain sustainable and meaningful employment that will make a difference for them and for their families through life skills support, job search techniques, resume writing assistance and connections to educational partners and employers.
We established the V-Powered Kids program at the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) in Drayton Valley, because we recognize that funding quality early childhood education is a key poverty reduction strategy.
Each year, our workplace campaign raises funds for United Way through pledging, corporate matching and special events. We are proud to help make Calgary a city that is great for everyone.
As part of our monthly meal sponsorship, between 15 and 20 Vermilion staff help serve lunch at the DI every month.
We are proud to have sponsored the Calgary Zoo's Empty Backpack Program since the 2014-2015 academic year. In 2015-16, for example, 785 students and 196 teachers in 29 kindergarten to Grade 3 classes from under-served schools participated in fully subsidized, inspiring, nature-based programming.
We have been involved with Hockey Helps the Homeless since 2008 as the presenting or co-presenting sponsor. Our partnership in 2016, which included financial support, fielding teams and providing event-day volunteers, helped the Calgary tournament raise almost $120,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, Habitat for Humanity, Inn From the Cold and YWCA of Calgary.
