Jarlath Trench

Managing Director, Vermilion E&P Ireland

Jarlath began his career on the Corrib asset in Ireland in 2008, after having worked in the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) sector across various industries in Ireland since 1999. He advanced through several HSE roles during the construction and operations phases of Corrib. In 2020, he was appointed by Vermilion to Operations Manager for the asset, where he assumed responsibility for production, operations, maintenance, engineering, and subsea activities. In 2023, Jarlath was promoted to Managing Director of the Vermilion Ireland business unit.

Education

Jarlath earned an Executive MBA from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School at University College Dublin (UCD) in 2024. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, and a Diploma in HSE from University College Dublin. Additionally, he is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

 

Gerard Schut, P.Eng

Vice President European Operations

Gerard Schut, P.Eng, is our Vice President of European Operations. He brings over 25 years of international experience in the oil and gas industry including strong HSE, subsurface, operations, asset development, acquisitions and divestitures. In his most recent position prior to joining Vermilion, he was the General Manager of Chevron’s E&P business in the Netherlands, responsible for business development and production activities offshore. He successfully increased gross production from 5,000 BOE/d in 2005 to 25,000 BOE/d in 2011 and led the acquisition and development of industry firsts in shallow gas development in the North Sea. During his 10-year tenure with Unocal in Thailand, Gerard successfully introduced slimhole drilling with monobore completions, reducing capital cost and improving recovery efficiency. As Asset Manager he initiated the fast-track appraisal and development of the Plamuk, Surat and Yala oil reservoirs in the predominantly gas-rich area around Platong, resulting in oil production rates reaching over 50,000 boe/d and booked reserves exceeding 200 MMboe.  Gerard holds a MSc degree in Petroleum Engineering from Delft University (1986) and an MBA from Henley, The Management College, Brunel University (1996).
